There are many ways to stabilize a channel, hard armor (rock or concrete), soft armor(vegetation), or a combination of the two systems. A soft armor or vegetated channel in most cases is more aesthetic and is also more economical but is sometimes limited by the flows and or the ability to vegetate the area. For many years vegetation was limited to five or six feet per second flows but with today’s new turf reinforcement mats you are able to take flows in some cases well over ten feet per second. North American Green has three products known as the V-max series that have been tested and proven to take some of the most extreme flows of any product in the industry. North American Green has the leading software in the industry to help you analyze the channel and help you select to right solution for your problems. There are also several other solutions to the channel stabilization problem. There are articulated concrete mats that can also be vegetated, gabion mattresses, cellular confinement system that can be filled with rock or concrete, and there are bioengineering systems that utilizes different products along with natural vegetation to stabilize the channel. To learn more about these systems please contact your local A.S.P. representative.
